100 mA Positive Voltage Regulators
The MC78L00A Series of Positive Voltage Regulators are inexpensive, easy−to−use devices suitable for a multitude of applications that require a regulated supply of up to 100 mA. Like their higher powered MC7800 and MC78M00 Series cousins, these Regulators feature internal current limiting and thermal shutdown making them remarkably rugged. No external components are required with the MC78L00 devices in many applications.
These devices offer a substantial performance advantage over the traditional zener diode−resistor combination, as output impedance and quiescent current are substantially reduced.

500 mA Positive Voltage Regulators
The MC78M00/MC78M00A Series Positive Voltage Regulators are identical to the popular MC7800 Series devices, except that they are specified for only half the output current. Like the MC7800 devices, the MC78M00 three−terminal Regulators are intended for local, on−card Voltage regulation.
Internal current limiting, thermal shutdown circuitry and safe−area compensation for the internal pass transistor combine to make these devices remarkably rugged under most operating conditions. Maximum output current, with adequate heatsinking is 500 mA.

Positive Voltage Regulators
The LM323,A are monolithic integrated circuits which supply a fixed Positive 5.0 V output with a load driving capability in excess of 3.0 A. These three–terminal Regulators employ internal current limiting, thermal shutdown, and safe–area compensation. The A–suffix is an improved device with superior electrical characteristics and a 2% output Voltage tolerance. These Regulators are offered with a 0° to +125°C temperature range in a low cost plastic power package.
Although designed primarily as a fixed Voltage regulator, these devices can be used with external components to obtain adjustable Voltages and currents. These devices can be used with a series pass transistor to supply up to 15 A at 5.0 V.

Description
The 3 17 are adjustable 3 - terminal Positive -Voltage Regulators capable of supplying 1.5A over a differential Voltage range of 3V to 40V. They are exceptionally easy to use and require only two external resistors to set the output Voltage. Both input and output regulation are better than standard fixed Regulators.In addition to higher performance than fixed Regulators, these Regulators offer full overload protection available only in integrated circuits. Included on the chip are current limit, thermal overload protection, and safe-area protection. All overload protection circuitry remains fully functional even if the adjustment terminal is disconnected. Normally, no capacitors are needed unless the device is situated far from the input filter capacitors in which case an input bypass is needed. An optional output capacitor can be added to improve transient response.
